AV Industry Passes 145 Million Autonomous Miles
May 21, 2025

More than 145 million autonomous miles have been driven on US public roads and commercial deployments spanning robotaxis, zero-occupancy vehicles, and long-haul trucks, according to the State of AV Report from the Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association (AVIA).

This represents more than double the number of miles since AVIA last reported the data in April 2024.

AVIA CEO Jeff Farrah said: "AVs are operating safely every day in communities and on highways across the country, proving they can deliver on the promise of safer roads, enhanced mobility, and stronger supply chains. The United States has led the world in developing this technology, and as State of AV highlights, we can continue that momentum if lawmakers and policymakers in Washington work to develop a federal policy framework for AVs."

While state governments have led the way on AV deployment, the absence of a federal framework remains a top challenge cited by AV company leaders. More than 93% of AVIA member CEOs interviewed for the report said that federal policy action is the most important step to support continued progress.

The report highlights the urgent need for national leadership and calls attention to AVIA's federal policy roadmap, Securing American Leadership in Autonomous Vehicles.
